Oh oh sometimes, I get a good feeling

I get a feeling that I never never never never had before, no no
I get a good feeling, yeah

I have had this song pretty much in my head since the start of the new year.  And the way I am feeling about this upcoming year, I wouldn’t mind if it stayed in my head every day.  There are just so many ideas swirling in this head of mine,  it’s hard not to be excited about making them happen.  And if you don’t know the song, you can check it out here.  I won’t be shocked if you can’t place it just by reading it.  I even sang it for my husband and he had no clue what song it was.  I, obviously, am a super talented singer…

So, did you guys set some new year’s resolutions?  And where have I been with this whole word of the year thing…have people been doing this for a long time and I just wasn’t staying “on top” of things???  I kind of like it though…I typically do not set any resolutions, but this year, well, I felt like it was time to switch things up just a bit.  What sparked this sudden change in attitude, you ask?  Several things, really, but the biggest factor in my decision was realizing that my sweet husband and I don’t make enough time to just go out and be husband and wife as often as we should.   Don’t get me wrong, even though I am a huge homebody…we do go out a lot with the kids and are very social, but note how I said ‘with the kids.’  As much as I love my kiddos and adore being around them, I know it’s so important to not get lost in being mama and dada all the time.  So, Sam and I made a resolution to have a date night once a month…just him and me.  Getting a babysitter and going out with our friends does not count.  And to up the ante even more, we said that the 12 dates had to be things that we have either never done or something out of the normal “date night” routine.  We each wrote 6 ideas down and I must say, we have some pretty incredible dates planned for 2012.  Not only do we think we are super smart, but we are really excited to go out on all these dates…although the hot air balloon ride kind of makes me anxious just thinking about it so that may have to be changed to something like an all day picnic filled with good books, good wine and perfect weather…anything would do really…just preferably something where I can stay on the ground.

Are we the only ones who don’t make enough time as a couple?  Any ideas on great dates that aren’t too far fetched?  We did both write something similar down so we are in need of a backup date.

And off the subject a little here, but doesn’t it feel good to have all the holidays behind us and to be back into the normal swing of things?  I have been incredibly busy on a ton of projects around here and I’m anxious to show you everything so hopefully since things have calmed down a little around here, I can start doing that!  And just because I like me some pics and these were too cute not to share…if I would have known that a fan could make my little Oliver so happy, I would have bought one months ago!!!

So, enough with the random post…here’s hoping 2012 is so great for you that it blows your hair back!  😉  I couldn’t resist…

  1. LOVE the pics! Date night with the man is soooo important. Infact I can always tell when some time has passed between Adam and I having some us time. We are so busy with all the kids and work it’s easy to over look. I can’t speak for him but I really look forward to “us time” to reconnect. As much as we love our kids, the truth is those babies are gonna be gone one day and it will only be the two of you. I don’t know about you but I dont want to feel like strangers when that time comes.

    • Natalie, I couldn’t have said it better! So true & I am so glad that I’m not alone! I was actually feeling a little embarrassed that we haven’t done the whole “alone time” thing more often! Thanks for sharing, it makes me feel better! 😉

      • I can’t find the site where I found it, but basically you browse books to find new things you’d like to try/go as a couple(it’s supposed to be a race to see who gets done first, but I think it would be fun to find these together)
        1. Find a new recipe out of a cookbook you’d like to try
        2. Find a picture of a map of a place you’d like to visit
        3. Find a children’s book you enjoyed as a child
        4. Find a book you think your date/spouse would enjoy
        5. Find a book that has happily ever after in it
        6. Find a book you read in high school that you would like to read again
        7. Buy a crossword puzzle book and solve a puzzle together

  3. Jealous and so romantic! I need to work on my husband of almost 32 years to do something just like this. Our anniversary is this Thursday and I am going to challenge him. Thanks for the great ideas. Happy New Year. Keep on blogging

  4. Hi Jesse! What are some of your date night ideas…if you don’t mind sharing. My husband and I usually just go to dinner by ourselves for our date night but I would like to spice it up a bit.

    • Erin, we are the same way…if we get a date night out it is 99% of the time dinner and a movie. So, we decided that we had to come up with some different dates. Here is the 12 ideas we came up with together
      1. Go to brunch and then go and get a couples massage
      2. Go to winery and enjoy the sunset
      3. Take a cooking class together (they have a ton to choose from at our local Career Center
      4. There are several great restaurants that are within 45 minutes of Columbia…one night we will finally make it to one
      5. Go see a play either in Saint Louis or here in town
      6. Go to the casino…if our $ goes fast, the go have dessert and wine at Room 38. (we’ve never been)
      7. Hot air balloon ride followed by lunch (preferably somewhere we’ve never been)
      8. Load up our picnic basket and grab a few favorite magazines or books and head to the park for an afternoon of NO PHONES, NO INTERNET, NO INTERRUPTIONS
      9. Go to a wine tasting or an oil & vinegar class
      10. Take an overnight trip to my parents cabin
      11. Go to Billards or Booches for burgers, beer and pool

That is our list, I hope it helps you come up with some ideas that are outside the box of “dinner and a movie”!

      • Jesse
You could always try the Rocheport wine stroll in the fall or the wassall walk during the holidays. Abagails is yummy in Rocheport too!! Or an overnight at a B&B in a quaint town then explore the towns history.

      • Great ideas Laura! Thank you so much! Abigail’s is on our list…I cannot believe we’ve never been there! I think we are missing out!
