An Update on our Water Campaign

Remember this post & campaign?  I was blown away by all of the support that came in for Scout & Nimble’s clean water campaign through charity: water and I don’t know a better time of year to reiterate a HUGE thank you to all of you who donated, prayed, and made a difference.

You wanna know where our money is right now??? Map highlighting Ethiopia and Nepal

That’s right! I just got an update from charity: water and they are putting our dollars to work on water projects in Ethiopia & Nepal.  We will know more details of exactly where our funds went within these countries down the road…remember we are still fairly early in our journey.

One of the reasons I choose to work through charity: water is that 100% of public donations are used to fund clean water projects.  (All the overhead costs are covered by foundations, sponsors, and donors who choose to help with operational funding.)  So that means all the money we raised back in March goes directly into the field.  It’s pretty amazing.  I’ll definitely keep you up to date as I hear more.  And if you want to see what charity: water is all about, you can learn more about their mission here!

Funny thing called fear

Fear is such a funny thing, isn’t it?  It can prevent you from doing pretty incredible things.  Wow…never in a million years did I think that I would be blogging about fear?  I mean…what???

Well, here is the thing.  A little over 5 years ago, I had said that I wanted to help fund a well to provide clean safe drinking water to those who need it.  I said it…I put it out there and then I started to logically think about how I was going to get this done.  And I froze…I did nothing because I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to raise enough money…I was nervous that I wouldn’t hit the goal, that people wouldn’t care and I would fail.   It’s totally crazy, right?  I’m almost embarrassed to admit that because I never realized that this issue is so not about me!?!

Now, here I am, 5 years older wiser, and I have decided to quit thinking and just do  because people need help.  I’m not going to worry about the logistics of it all or how in the world we are going to raise $10,000, which could fund wells for two communities and help over 500 people gain access to clean, safe drinking water…I just have faith that people will care, I have faith that people will help, & I have faith that we can make a difference and change this world of ours.  $20 is all it takes to provide one person access to clean drinking water.  charity: water is a wonderful organization and 100% of public donations directly fund water projects in developing countries.  They are one of only a few organizations that provide the proof as well…giving GPS coordinates of your funded project.
I have created a Scout & Nimble campaign page  (you can also get there by clicking on the baby bottle image above) to spread the word and track our progress.  Please go there.  Please donate.  Please spread the word.  $20 can buy you a lot of things, but it can also change one person’s life.  It can give that person the access to clean water.  The most basic human need for just $20.  Do it because it’s necessary.  Share it because it’s necessary.  And maybe just maybe by helping to change someone else’s life, you will also bring more beauty to yours.

The goal is a large one…one that cannot be accomplished by a single person, but rather by a group of individuals who share a greater vision, a finer spirit of hope, and choose to enrich this world around us.  I created Blogging to Better series because I am still under the impression that together we can create an impact, make a difference and change the world on a daily basis.  Won’t you join me?  Click here to make a difference today.
